ZEBULON — Authorities are investigating threats against Zebulon Middle School discovered on social media Wednesday night, according to Zebulon police.
The nature of the threats was not disclosed, but Police Chief Tim Hayworth said investigators are taking them seriously.
“This is a very early point in the investigation and therefore only a limited amount of information can be released,” Hayworth said in a news release. “There is currently insufficient information to determine the validity of the threat, however, all threats are considered serious and this matter is being investigated as such.”
Police were alerted to the threats around 9:42 p.m. Wednesday and notified Wake County sheriff’s deputies and Wake County Public Schools security staff, Hayworth said.
An increased police presence at Zebulon Middle was planned for Thursday along with more patrols at other nearby schools.
“No further information will be released at this time due to the active investigative nature of the case,” Hayworth said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Zebulon Police Department at 919-823-1818 or Eastern Wake Crimestoppers at 919-366-2746.
