Youth leadership conference helps mentor area students

WAKE FOREST — The Northeastern Regional Youth Leadership Conference was held at the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary on Thursday, March 7 to provide student-led and mentor-guided sessions to 200 students from six area high schools and middle schools: Wake Forest High, Wakefield High, Wakefield Middle, Heritage High, Heritage Middle, and Rolesville High.

Hosted by the Northeastern Regional Business Alliance, the effort included participation from the Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and community agencies, along with career development coordinators from the schools.

Introductions by the panelists included: Wake Forest Chamber President Ann Welton, 2012 recipient of the Trentini Scholarship, Holden McLemore of Wake Forest High, Collegewise Director Jenny Peacock, Wake Forest High School senior and student chair, Tara Wadford, and keynote speaker retired Capt. Bruce Cavey, U.S. Navy.

The students attended four sessions, and the day-long event ended with a mentor-guided lunch and roundtable discussions.
