Ted “Proctor” Massey Sr., 82, of Raleigh passed away after a brief illness Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Rex Healthcare. Massey was born Aug. 28, 1930 in Wake County, the son of the late Otha Massey and Neva Watkins Massey.
Massey graduated from Rolesville High School in 1949 and married Edna Earle Chalk June 10, 1950. For many years they were the owners of Proctor’s Swim Club, and he also farmed and worked for Lowe’s Home Improvement. The Masseys worked at the Red Cross Building at the N.C. State Fairgrounds for 27 years, helping lost children and families with first aid needs and directions. Massey also sang with Psalmsman Quartet and was a member of Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 6 at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
In addition to his wife, Massey is survived by his sons, Ted Proctor Massey Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Knightdale and Robert Ferrell “Bobby” Massey of Raleigh; and three grandchildren.
