WAKE FOREST — A 14-year-old boy has reported being sexually assaulted in the woods along a section of Sanford Creek Greenway. See greenway map below for general area.
According to a statement by Wake Forest Police Spokesman Bill Crabtree, the boy told police yesterday he was walking along the greenway when he was approached by a man unknown to him. After a brief conversation, the suspect forced the victim into the woods and assaulted him. The statement did not say when the assault occurred.
Based on the victim's description, police are looking for a white male in his late teens or early 20s, with patchy dark facial hair, standing 6 feet to 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 160-170 pounds. He was wearing a black, long-sleeve shirt and light-colored tennis shoes.
Anyone with information that might assist the ongoing investigation is asked to call Wake Forest Police tip line at 919-435-9610. All calls are confidential.
In the meantime, police are urging greenway users to follow these safety tips:
•Walk or ride with a buddy or group of people
•Always be aware of your surroundings
•Keep friends and family informed of your whereabouts
•Carry a cell phone at all times and call 911 immediately if you see something suspicious or feel you are in danger
•Don’t stop to talk with strangers asking for directions or other types of help as this can be a ploy to get close for an attack.
•If grabbed, fight back and make as much noise as possible
