WAKE FOREST — Wake Forest United Methodist Church held it’s annual Trunk or Treat Contest Sunday afternoon.
Trunk winners were first place, the Mason Family (Billy and MaryAnne) with a Pirate theme; second place, the Stansbury Family (Chad and Jeanette) for Charlie Brown and the Way family (Brian and Sharon) for Glow in the Dark.
Costume winners stretched across age groups. In the family costume division, the Heard and the Moore families tied with Curious George and Ninja Turtles, respectively.
Tracy and Tim Mahl won the adult costume division. Tracy came as Mary Poppins and Tim as Burt the Chimney Sweep.
Sarah and Michelle Vernatter dressed as Thing 1 and Thing 2 and won the High School division.
Grant Radding was a gangster and took home the Middle School award. Jenna Ellen co-won grades 3-5 with Caroline Kuga. Ellen was Cotton Candy while Kuga was a tornado.
An unnamed Robot and Lily Patrick as Cleopatra won for grades K-2 while Pre K 3-4 years old was won by a 1930s Page Boy and Glenda the Good Witch.
In the Babies 2 and Under division, Eli Mokhiber won coming dressed as a gnome and an unnamed Strawberry also took honors.
Brunswick stew sale Friday
The church, located at 905 S. Main St., holds its annual Brunswick stew sale Friday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Bowls of stew with hushpuppies and tea are just $6. Quarts of stew are $8.
The stew sale is followed Saturday by their 43rd annual holiday bazaar, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Plenty of arts and crafts, baked goods, vintage items and a garden shop will be on hand.
From 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Prayer Shawl Ministers will demonstrate how to knit and crochet.
A foot-long hot dog lunch will be offered by the Youth Fellowship from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
