WAKE FOREST — Carolina Elite Football, Heritage High and 50-plus volunteers collaborated to bring the first state 7-on-7 competition to Wake Forest.
More than 1,100 athletes participated.
At the end of the day-long tournament, the Wake Forest High Cougars walked away with the championship trophy.
Bob Winstead, who was the driving force behind the tournament, said that 7-on-7 games are growing in popularity as they allow for more cohesive pre-practice season team building.
