RALEIGH — For the second year in a row, Wakefield’s girls golf team won the Cap 8 conference championship after winning their last match of the season Tuesday at Hasentree Club Golf Course.
This season, the Wolverines won every single match and scored a 137 at Hasentree.
Susannah Ireland shot a 42 and Casey Burroughs scored a 43 to lead Wakefield in their final regular season match.
As well as Ireland and Burroughs, the rest of the Wakefield team won All-Conference and qualified to play in the regional tournament Oct. 20 at Heritage.
For other local schools, Samantha Bennett qualified for regionals for Wake Forest. The senior was also named Cap 8 Player of the Year.
All five players on the Heritage team also qualified. The Huskies finished second in the conference standings.
