WAKE FOREST — Timothy Michael Adams, who graduated last month from Wakefield High School, drowned Saturday in the Tuckaseigee river near East LaPorte Park River Access Area about 3.5 miles outside of Cullowhee, according to news reports.
“Tim was taken from us too soon in a sudden, unfortunate accident,” his mother, Susan Adams wrote in a gofundme.com page set up to raise funeral expenses. Adams, 18, was attending WCU’s Summer Academic Success Program at the time of accident. He was enrolled at the school as sports management major, a university spokesman said.
At the time of the incident, Adams was reportedly swimming in the river. The East LaPorte River Access Area is a popular destination with hatchery supported trout fishing, among other attractions. When rescuers arrived, he had been pulled out of the water and was receiving CPR from bystanders. He was later pronounced dead at MedWest-Harris Regional Hospital. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
Adams was a wide receiver for Wakefield High School and wore jersey No. 11. To assist the Adams family with expenses, see gofundme.com/b350wk.
