Walter Raymond “Hops” Holze, 80

Walter Raymond Holze, 80, of Wake Forest passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013 at WakeMed. He was born in Glendale, N.Y., the son of the late Arthur W. Holze and Anna Marie Fuchs Holze. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Coral Sea.

Holze worked as an electrician and then a plant engineer at Chemprene Inc. He was a devout Catholic and an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and taking road trips.

In 2009 he moved to Wake Forest and spent his last few years tooling around the neighborhood on his scooter and spending time sitting on the porch.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday morning, July 10 at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Inurnment was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Holze is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Schmitt Holze; children, Annamarie Holze Mason and her husband, Randy, of Altus, Okla., Peter Holze and his wife, Brenda, of Florence, S.C., Margaret Holze Rodzel and her husband, Otto, of Cold Spring, N.Y., and MaryBeth Holze Webb and her husband, William, of Wake Forest; a sister, Jean Kries of Grant, Fla.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other family and cherished friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Arthur J. Holze; and his stepmother, Louise Marks Holze, who raised him after the early death of his mom.
