Willie Robert Loyd Sr., 88, of Louisburg, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Franklin Regional Medical Center. The son of the late Billy Joe and Elma Sikes Loyd, Mr. Loyd served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of the Cattlemen’s Association and loved to hunt.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Vaughan Loyd; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Ann Loyd; his daughters and sons-in-law, Meredith and David Wilder and Loria and Eugene Lester; his brother and sister-in-law, Billy Joe “BJ” and Henrietta Loyd; five grandsons, Lee Wilder, Robbie Loyd, Wyatt Lester, Chris Wood and Dale Lester; two granddaughters, Marcie Lester and Heather Ferguson; five great-grandchildren, Daniel Wilder, Trevor Wilder, Colton Loyd, Eden Lester and Madelyn Ferguson; his niece, Mary White; his adopted family, James Hale and his special friend, Tom Allen.
Visitation was held Jan. 21 at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services in Louisburg, and funeral services took place Jan. 22 at Mount Gilead Baptist Church, with Pastor Charles Summerlin and Pastor Larry Ayscue officiating.
