YOUNGSVILLE — It’s time to mark calendars to get ready for all-day holiday fun with Youngsville’s annual Old Time Christmas and Christmas Parade set for Saturday, Dec. 7.
The day begins with a pancake breakfast 7:30-9:30 a.m. in the Youngsville Rescue Squad Building, 105 NW Railroad St. There will be pancakes, biscuits, sausage, orange juice and coffee. There will also be a silent auction with proceeds to benefit the Rescue Squad Building fund. Anyone with donations for the auction can drop off at the Rescue building or call 919-556-4981.
Right after breakfast is the parade at 10 a.m., right down Main Street. Entries for the parade are free. To participate, call town hall at 919-556-5073.
Capitalize on the after-parade energy by heading over to the National Guard Armory at 125 US 1-A for Old Time Christmas, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., with loads of activities for kids. Faith Baptist Church singers and the Rachel Macholl Dance Studio will be presenting. Also on display will be all the gingerbread house contest winners. Hot dogs and drinks will be on sale by the Youngsville Masonic Lodge.
The day winds up at 5:30 p.m. with the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Mitchell Park, 125 W. Persimmon St., behind Youngsville Elementary School. There will be hot apple sider, ginger snap cookies and more Christmas music. Also, the Christmas decorating award winners will be announced.
New decorating contest this year
The Youngsville Old Time Christmas celebration is getting a new twist this year: a Chrismas decorating contest.
Awards will be given for best use of lights (with minimal decoration to offset them), best business decorations, elegance/traditional (most old fashioned, simple but charming), whimsical/fun (excessive use of outdoor lighting and decorations combination and mayor’s choice.
Judging will take place Wednesday, Dec. 4 with awards given out during the Dec. 7 tree lighting ceremony.
